Nigel Egg: Bio

Nigel Egg is a blues original, a veteran of the 1970's British music scene who has played with legends like Supertramp and Mott the Hoople.

He says, “I grew up in a little English seaside town called Ramsgate. Frank, the guitar player in my high school rock band was way hipper than the rest of us. He introduced us to John Mayall's Blues Breakers and I've been playing the blues ever since.

I write songs about the stuff I know/feel/sense personally, and also about what my friends and family tell me. I’m a middle class white guy - I never had a hellhound on my trail, and I've never worked on the killing floor. But what I do sing about is real, and that comes through in the performance. OK, sometimes it's made up, but that seems to come across too.”

Nigel Egg plays original blues songs, a few classics, and a very personal collection of soulful American Roots music. His songwriting and his ability to play soulful blues harp and guitar at the same time has won multiple awards from organizations like the Minnesota Folk Festival and the Austin TX Songwriters Group. Nigel won honors recently at the Great River Festival (LaCrosse, WI), the Highway 61 Folks Festival (Mahtowa, MN) and scored a second-place win at the prestigious Telluride (CO) Blues and Brews festival in their annual Acoustic Blues Competition.
